Lisa
Lopes death, an accident, or murder? TLC was the top-selling female R&B
group in the 90’s. All turned, when Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, singer/rapper, died
in a car accident on her way back home after her spiritual journey in Honduras
(Pareles).
Did
someone need to get her “out of the way”, did Suge Knight have her killed, or
was it an accident (“Lisa
Lopes: Left Eye's Fatal Vision”)? Let’s take a deeper
look.
Character Analysis:
Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes was a successful
rapper/singer in a group called TLC, which was formed in 1992 (TLC Members
Recall Singer’s Death). TLC was the biggest selling girl group of all time,
selling 27 million records (1). Emil Wilberkin, editor in chief at Vibe
Magazine said, “they were fun sassy and had a special resonance for girls”
(1).
Left Eye had a lot of
obstacles in her way and to get through it; she started drinking heavily and
sometimes disappearing for weeks at times (Reid). She even burned the 1.3
million house of her boyfriend, football star Andre Rison in 1994 which was
claimed by Shaheem Reid (Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes Killed In Car Accident). This is
how she labeled herself crazy, in the title of their second album
“Crazysexycool” (1). Lisa was even fighting with band members (TLC Members
Recall Singer’s Death).
Although she seemed crazy, she was more strong, hardworking, and overcame many
obstacles put in her way (Reid). Even, the audibly distraught ladies said,
“Lisa had one of the biggest hearts of anybody we’ve ever known (1). She did
charity work with kids who had the Lupus disease and she adopted a little girl
named Snow (1). Lisa could do anything” (1). Lisa was getting her life together
and trying to stay clean (TLC Members Recall Singer’s Death). She even stepped
outside the group to pursue her own album (Paine).
Left Eye was a hard worker who worked with multiple record companies, even
death Row records, which was owned by Suge Knight (Paine). Suge Knight, who was
known for his orchestrated beatdowns and weapon-brandishing gangsters (1).
While she on her spiritual retreat in Honduras, she was also traveling back and
forth, between Death Row and Honduras (1). This was right before Lisa’s death
and during this time, there was many deaths around the label (1). Lisa’s life
was a constant roller coaster and it kept getting worse.
She overcomes many obstacles, in 2002, in Honduras, Lisa’s SUV runs over
seven-year-old boy and kills him, while Lisa was filming in the passenger seat
(Lisa Lopes: Left Eye’s Fatal Visions). She was on her spiritual journey,
trying to find herself (1). All that ended on April 25, 2002, when Lisa “Left
Eye” Lopes, SUV of seven passengers went off the highway (TLC Members Recall
Singer’s Death). She was the only one killed in the accident (1). Also, a poll
was given at College of the Mainland in Texas City, Texas and ninety percent of
the students, agreed that her death was not an accident. Left Eye’s death was a
tragedy, because she was trying to change for the better (Lisa Lopes: Left
Eye’s Fatal Visions).
On
April 25, 2002, the strong and vibrant Lisa” Left Eye” Lopes died unexpectedly.
Since the rapper/singer died, here are some conspiracy theories that still
remain:
·
She fought with bandmates a lot, so did
they not want to deal with her and want her “out the way”?
·
Being the outspoken, independent women she
is, did Suge Knight have her killed?
·
Was it an accident?
It
has been fifteen years since Left Eye’s death, and it is still unreal. There
are three conspiracy theories that lead to her death. Did her fellow bandmates
want her gone, did Suge Knight have her killed, or was it just an accident?
From the research, it is determined that the most probable cause of her death
was that Suge Knight, who is known for his orchestrated beat downs and weapon-brandishing
gangsters, had her killed (Paine).
