Project Pegasus - Jacob Perales

Time is relative. My second can feel like your day, and so on. But, if time is a man-made concept, created to determine how life progresses, is it possible to travel through it? In other words, can one travel from today to ten years in the past? What about ten years into the future? Project Pegasus is a project founded under DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Project Agency), in 1968 (Basiago). This project is aimed at traveling through time and space. Andrew D. Basiago claims to be a subject of these experiments and went as far as to write a book on his horrifying experiences (1). Some claims even go as far as putting our current president, Barack Obama, on Mars. As expected, many conspiracies have been developed around these outrageous claims, but many can be dwindled down to two questions: Did it happen? Or is it all a hoax?

Born in 1961, Andrew D. Basiago was a boy of many talents. According to the Project Pegasus website, Basiago was born as an Indigo child, meaning he could use telekinesis to lift objects up with his mind. It was not long before he was taken into the Project Pegasus Corporation and used for experiments (Basiago). While participating in these experiments, Basiago claims to have traveled to Mars many times and discovered evidence of an ancient civilization that once roamed the Red Planet (1).  He seems to be fairly open about such a sensitive subject. No one would expect to hear about a top secret government project through a book published by a man from New Jersey, but so much evidence would cause one to believe anything this man has to say.

The only plot hole in his credibility is that the information on his life jumps from birth, to his work in the Pegasus Project. Basiago has no recorded college education or any professional art to his name. He did write a book that explained his experience on Mars, and his partner, Alfred Webre, a member of a Yale secret society, supports him completely (Salla). Once evidence is found that describes the events of Basiago’s life, they completely contradict the words he expresses about himself. Now there seems to be another conflict that makes us really question the reliability of this man’s word. Although the official website of Project Pegasus says little to nothing about his life outside of the association, a blog explains all about his life, about his college experience, and what he did to discover life on mars.’ Unfortunately, these two sites contradict one another. All of these conflicts that surround Basiago seem to be external. The main conflict is that no one believes him. No one can believe that a man traveled to Mars in the 1980’s with the current president. To make things worse, all of the evidence that can be found only raises more questions, rather than answer them. This would only be reasonable for the fact that Basiago was the author of the Project Pegasus website. It comes down to his word against everyone else’s. Is he telling the truth about his own life? Or is he just writing a fictional story that someone would read in their free time?

When asked, most people would say that they believe that time travel is possible. According to a survey taken here at the local high school, 3 out of 4 people have said that they believe in time travel. Now, to say one man has traveled back to the witness the Crucifixion is a little out of the ordinary. A major conspiracy revolving around the whereabouts of Andrew D. Basiago is whether he is telling the truth or not.

Time travel is very possible. Of course, no regular citizen would know if it is occurring at the moment, but with all of the technological advancements we have seen in the past decade or so, it is definitely something that can be done. Well, at least in the present time. Basiago states that he was time traveling in the 1980’s (Basiago). Time travel sounds reasonable, until you add in the time period Basiago claims he did it in.

Another claim that has been made is that our current president, Barack Obama, traveled to Mars with Basiago. Along with the other survey, another group of people were questioned on this claim and a total of 0 people believed it. It is very unlikely that our president has traveled to Mars and when researched, no evidence can prove or disprove the claim. To pile onto these claims, he also has said to have witnessed the Crucifixion and the assassination of Lincoln. Once or twice, he claims to have seen himself in the past, for the fact that he had traveled so much. These outrageous claims have no evidence to back them up, nor do the surveys help support these claims.

When deciding which claim is the most reasonable, or which one is more likely, no evidence leads to believing any of them, nor does anything lead one to believe all of this is false. The only claim that would prove to close the cases and make nothing of this man would be his claim to run for president in the 2016 election. It is close to the election currently and the candidates are already starting their campaign. Unless he is coming in the next few months, we can believe that he is lying. Other than that, the only resources out there simply state his claims, nothing leads to a conclusion. It may be skepticism, but rarely will people believe that this man traveled through time the way he claims he did.

To conclude, this man of time is surely one to look into. Who is to say he is wrong? Who is to say everything is correct? No one can be certain about Andrew D. Basiago. The information found about him is all over the place. While one source will say he is a proud member of DARPA, another will say he spent his early years attending school. Some sources claim that he will be in the next presidential election, but current studies find that this is false. Time travel is possible and the world has yet to know about it, but a man traveled to Mars with Barack Obama in the 1980’s? This wide range of outrageous information about this small town time traveler is simply ridiculous. It is hard to believe anything this man would say, but it is up to each person to decide what they believe. Is this man a liar? Or has he traveled through time before the world knew what time travel was?
