Michael Jackson by Ronie Mills

A body full of medication, a doctor convicted guilty, and a confused man racially, sexually, and personally, all center around the known phenomenon of Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson was a visionary who artistically produced music and performance, which still affects the industry today. The biggest pop star to ever live who was dubbed the name “King of Pop” was found dead on June 25, 2009.  Panic and horror filled the world as his fans found out their king was dead. Due to the multiple trials and conspirators on the character of Michael Jackson, a span of conspiracy theories have been created. Was Michael Jackson a part of child abuse? Was he purposefully killed by his doctor, siblings, or fans? Is he still alive and living by an alias? Let’s examine Michael Jackson, the person of interest, and decide once and for all what happened to the King of Pop himself.
Michael Jackson was a child-like personality who acted out of sensitivity. During the time of his accusations, his attorney, Thomas Mesereau, said, “I am haunted by certain late-night phone calls I received from Michael...Childlike, kindhearted and terrified” (“True Michael Jackson” 1).  Due to his childlike self, Michael Jackson often had children running around with him; this ended up getting him in trouble in the future. His house, which was named Neverland, was full of attractions for kids. He had animals of wild types, rides, and a movie theatre to name a few. His reasoning for having a house which was so childish was because he never got to experience a true childhood growing up. Jackson, in an interview with the famous Oprah Winfrey, explains, “Disneyland, amusement parks, arcade games — I adore all that stuff because when I was little, it was always work, work, work” (“True Michael Jackson” 1).  Michael Jackson believed there was magic in everything. His favorite character was that of Peter Pan, which hints the name of his famous abode. Michael Jackson claimed to be able to relate to Peter Pan.   When he became a father for the first time, his friend Yannick Allain exclaimed, “all I could remember noticing was the look on Michael's face. The look of absolute pride. I had never seen him looking calm and yet so confident and happy without saying a word” (“True Michael Jackson” 1).
Though he was child-like, he had an immense desire for children of his own, a child to nurture and love. He showed this desire for children in an interview when he expressed, “I was broken-hearted and I walked around all the time holding these little baby dolls and I'd be crying, that's how badly I wanted them” (“True Michael Jackson” 1).
Michael Jackson was a funny man who enjoyed pranks on the people around him.
Michael Lee Bush, Jackson’s designer, once elaborated, “What most people do not know about Jackson is that he was a joker - a playful prankster who loved to laugh and often teased those closest to him most" (“True Michael Jackson” 1).  Michael Jackson enjoyed to laugh, and he believed laughing was good for the soul. People often came into contact with this child-like, sensitive, joking man, and were surprised by how loving he was. He always wanted to save and help others, and he believed it to be his mission on earth. His passion for helping others was directed for lonely people, sick people, and children. He loved dying children well by giving them hope. He would invite them to his house or go see them in the hospital. He claimed to see miracles through this when he proclaimed, “With just a little love and a little caring, I have seen kids totally turn around. Where you can't find any cancer at all anymore in their body” (“True Michael Jackson” 1). Some people could even say that this is what drove Michael Jackson as a person: to save the ill children and provide fun moments of magic in their childhood. Kellie Parker sums up these character traits of Jackson by saying, “Michael was magic, pure and simple. He was a man who believed in the goodness of mankind and embodied pure unconditional love for the world” (True Michael Jackson” 1). Other than those who were against him in trial, whether speaking truth or false accusations, he was always called an intensely loved man who  intensely loved others.

Considering the character of Michael Jackson, there are several different conspiracy theories surrounding him as an individual and icon. The first conspiracy evolves around court trials for the accusations made by people claiming Jackson showed inappropriate behavior toward minors.  Gavin Arvizo claimed he was inappropriately interacted with as a child by
Michael Jackson ( “A Short History of the Michael Jackson Child Molestation Case” 1). Gavin Arvizo said he was too scared to speak up as a child with Michael interfering with his thought process, and due to a desire for money or justice, he brought this allegation to the legal courts in the year two-thousand and three (“True Michael Jackson” 1). The prosecutors against Jackson stated this as follows:
“The mere fact of forty-five-year-old Jackson’s three-year-long interest in the adolescent Gavin is corroborating in itself; it would strike a reasonable person as grossly abnormal. So is the way that interest manifested itself: endless telephone conversations with the youngster, inappropriate and relatively public touching, kissing, licking and cuddling of him; expensive gifts, cross-country flights, the relocation of the family from their modest quarters in Los Angeles, his efforts to have them take up residence in Brazil.” (“The 2005 Arvizo Allegations (Summary Version).”).
Though this conspiracy could be false, especially due to the fact that he was legally pronounced innocent, many people still see evidence and believe this theory is true. In fact, when surveyed, sixty-eight percent of people in the Houston Area believed Michael Jackson to have taken part in child molestation/ abuse. He was not convicted of guilt for child molestation, but he was proven of having child pornography in his house ( “A Short History of the Michael Jackson Child Molestation Case” 1).
The second conspiracy theory is one which attacks many famous celebrities. If the “King of Rock-and-Roll”, Elvis Presley, is said to still be alive and living under an alias, it is not a far off for some conspiracists to claim the same for Michael Jackson, the “King of Pop”. People claim that Michael Jackson is still alive and walking on this earth. Paris Jackson, Michael
Jackson’s daughter posted a picture on Instagram, and one of her followers exclaimed, “Is that
Michael in the back???” ( “Paris Jackson Imagines World Where Father Michael Jackson Is Still Alive in Edited Family Photo” 1). This direct quote led to a frenzy of more curious conspiracists believing Jackson to still be alive. The issue with this conspiracy is that his family mourned and still mourns over his death. They gave speeches at his funeral and post to this day about their beloved family member. Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris Jackson, posted about how different and beautiful her life would be if her late father were still alive ( “Paris Jackson Imagines World Where Father Michael Jackson Is Still Alive in Edited Family Photo” 1).  If Michael Jackson were still alive, how could his family effortlessly hide this and “fake” mourn all these years? To prove this conspiracy false, a staggering eighty-five percent of students and adults from the League City area whom were polled believe that Michael Jackson is dead.
The last conspiracy theory centers around the possibility of Michael Jackson being murdered purposefully by a drug overdose of the anesthesia named propofol ( “Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Released From Prison” 1). Michael Jackson’s doctor during the time of his death was Conrad Murray who was given jail time for supposedly assisting the death of Michael Jackson. Other doctors who have examined this conspiracy claim his method of giving anesthesia was unorthodox and dangerous ( “Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Released From Prison” 1). Rebbie Jackson proved the family’s beliefs of Michael being purposefully murdered when she exclaimed,“I'm just so happy it's over with. Nothing will bring him back, but I'm happy [Dr. Murray] was found guilty.” (“The Jackson Family Comments on Dr. Conrad Murray's Conviction in Michael Jackson's Death.”). Did Conrad Murray purposefully kill him though? He claims not to, and the reality in which he was only sentenced four years of jail time proves that Conrad Murray was not convicted for purposeful murder but for unskilled doctoring ethics. To help this claim, over half of the people surveyed, specifically seventy-three percent, agree that Michael Jackson was not purposefully murdered my Murray.
Each of these conspiracies are different yet linked through the life of the most famous Michael Jackson. By looking at the court's’ rulings on each of the cases mentioned above, as well as the survey poll percentages, two of the three conspiracies mentioned are true to some degree, but people have twisted the words some to make them not fully true. Michael Jackson was not purposefully murdered; his doctor was just poor at his job. He was not a man of molestation, though some of his character says otherwise. And lastly, he is not still alive. The evidence of his daughter’s instagram post proves this false ( “Paris Jackson Imagines World Where Father Michael Jackson Is Still Alive in Edited Family Photo” 1).
