Kurt Cobain Death Conspiracy

Final Essay

April 5, 1994 marks the day Kurt Cobain: lead singer & face of the popular grunge/rock band, Nirvana, committed suicide in his home in Seattle, Washington. With Kurt’s life being filled with drugs, abuse, and depression, many people figured his life would be ended short. When Cobain’s body was discovered, there was a shotgun with no fingerprints, a suicide note, & no major trauma to his face. Since his death many questions have gone unanswered, leaving a few theories to be developed.
1.      Was Kurt Cobain Murdered by Courtney Love?
2.      Did Courtney Love have Kurt Cobain killed?
3.      Was the suicide note falsified?
Let’s look at the life of Kurt Cobain and the theories surrounding his controversial suicide, with the most realistic solution being murder by Courtney Love.
Might someone ask, “Who is Kurt Cobain?”. You probably weren’t born in the 90’s if you don’t know. Kurt Cobain, former lead singer of the punk rock, grunge band. Born on February 20, 1967, in Aberdeen, Washington. Kurt had always had a musical background. By age four he was already singing and playing piano. You could say he had a normal upbringing, until his parents divorced in 1976. Kurt spoke on it in an interview with (“Family Values,” 1992). I had a good childhood up until I was nine, and then a classic case of divorce really affected me.
Kurt spent a lot of time bouncing around between family and friends, and by high school found himself even homeless living under a bridge at one point. He never got the tender, love, and care from anyone in his family, which took a huge toll on him.
In high school, Cobain befriended a gay student, and ended up receiving hate, and bullying from other class mates because they assumed he was gay. He later admitted that he was “gay in spirit”, and “probably could be bisexual” (“The Dark Side,” 1992).
Cobain had many struggles that stemmed from a dark childhood filled with many horrors like, abuse, alcoholism, abandonment. All of which led him to become somewhat neurotic, which is set on display in his lyrics. The alleged cause of death couldn’t have been to shock to his family, yet leaves loose ends, given all the toxic relationships Cobain was a part of. His life was filled with hate and haters.
There’s a few conspiracies tied to the death of Kurt Cobain, some more believable than others. The first being: Murdered by his wife, murder for hire, & murder by the nanny. The facts and accusations surrounding the situation are eye opening.
The first theory is that, Kurt Cobain’s wife (Courtney Love) is the murderer. At the scene of the “suicide”, amongst all the evidence, there was a suicide note that Cobain had left. When pictures of the note surfaced, many people took interest in the fact that the last few lines didn’t match Cobain’s handwriting (“How did Kurt Cobain really die?”).  Cobain’s relationship with Courtney was publicly known to be messy, and they had a history of splitting up (“Kurt Cobain death conspiracies”). The note showed to have obvious erase marks, as if someone had rewritten a few sentences which obviously raised eyebrows. Many people believed that the letter was originally supposed to express Cobain’s intent to leave Courtney for good, (“How did Kurt Cobain really die?”) which could leave a motive.
The second theory is murder for hire. Eldon Hoke, who also goes by “El Deuce”, is the lead singer of a band named The Mentors. In a documentary, “Kurt & Courtney”, “El Deuce” claims that Courtney had approached him in a record store in Hollywood, offering $50,000 to kill her husband, Kurt Cobain (1). Obviously, this isn’t the cause of the death given that this was talked about in a documentary, but what it does show, if true, is that Courtney seemed to have a reason to want Kurt dead. Eldon, later in the interview says that he turned down the offer from Courtney, and told her to let karma catch up to him (1). Two days after the documentary with Hoke’s interview was released, “El Deuce”, was run over by a train in California. His death was pronounced an accident.
The third theory is another murder. Tom Grant, a private investigator hired by Courtney Love had been investigating Cobain for quite some time before Kurt’s death (2). Grant who runs a website committed to death of Cobain, talks about how secretive his situation with Courtney was (1). Michael Dewitt, a longtime nanny for Kurt, who stayed at his Seattle home always, was the only one home when Cobain showed up to the house after running away from rehab. Grant, who had been traveling to Seattle at the time was the only person that found the Kurt’s body aside from Dewitt, who’s company had gone unknown until they found the body. Grant claims he received notes from Dewitt that were incredibly defensive about the fact he went unnoticed until the death. The theory remains at large.
All three theories contain studied facts that leave too much to be discovered. Too much of the case remains confidential, including photos of the crime scene.
On April 5th, 1994 Kurt Cobain was found dead in his home in Seattle, Washington. The verdict was suicide, but a suspicious suicide letter, and a few motives leave a few conspiracies to be formed.
1.      Kurt’s wife, Courtney Love is the murderer
2.      Murder for hire
3.      The nanny did it
Although most the evidence points to Courtney Love being the killer, the question remains a theory. The tragic death remains the original verdict: Suicide.
