Bob Lazar and Area 51 By Adrian Jauregui

Bob Lazar, a man that claimed he worked in Area 51. One night in May 1989 he spoke up about nine alien discs being held in the base. Ever since he has leaked info about the base, there has been multiple conspiracy theories about him and Area 51 in general. There were theories such as Reverse engineering, UFO’s/ other aircrafts, and an alien holding facility. Do you think Bob Lazar actually worked in Area 51? Do you think the things that he is saying happened? Let’s investigate the different theories surrounding what Bob Lazar is claiming about Area 51.

Twenty-five years later, and people are still talking about Bob Lazar. He is the man who told the public about Area 51. The problem is that some people believe him, and some others don’t. He has tried over and over to prove what he saw and the things that went on while he worked in Area 51. “Look, I’m not out there giving UFO lectures, producing tapes. This is not a business of mine. I am trying to run a scientific business, and if I’m the UFO guy, it makes it really difficult, it is to my benefit that people don’t believe the story,” (Editor 1).

Bob Lazar was a very brave man. In 1989, he decided to tell the world about Area 51. Despite the government threatening him, he went to the news and told his story. “They knew that if anything happened to me after I came forward it would only prove what I said was accurate.” (“Bob Lazar”1). He talked about the aliens they had, projects they were working on, the UFO’s and everything that they were hiding. At first, he was acting to be someone else and went by the name of “Dennis”, until a few weeks later he went on camera using his real name.

Area 51 is located about 125 miles north of Las Vegas, in the Nellis Air Force range and on the Nevada Test Site. The entrance was on a mountain slope and was covered with trees and other things. There was no way of knowing it was there. Some people say that it had been there since the mid 1970’s to 1989, but the RAAF (Roswell Army Air Field) found a UFO in late July 1947 so Area 51 could have been there since then also. It was all kept secret until Lazar spoke up.  In 2013, the government verified that it was true.

“The forbidden aspect of Area 51 is what makes people want to know what’s there,” (Blitz, Matt 1) says aerospace historian author Peter Merlin, who’s been researching Area 51 for more than three decades. There are many myths about Area 51. Determining what is real and what is false is sometimes hard to identify. Of course, the number one myth is aliens being kept inside. Another is the 1947 Roswell crash. Some people say it was a Soviet plane flown by mutated midgets. One of the craziest myths is that the government filmed the 1969 moon landing somewhere on the property. All we know is that Area 51 is still very active in present time.

One interesting fact is that in order to get the employees to come to the secret military base, they gave it a more enticing name and called it Paradise Ranch. The employees were a little leery about coming to work not knowing exactly what was going on. One reason that made them scared was that it was in the middle of nowhere. In 1954, the U-2 Program started which it was a high-altitude aircraft. Back then airlines flew at 10,000 and 20,000 feet. When pilots would see the U-2 they would of course think it was an alien spaceship, since it would fly much higher. People started asking what that was so the normal thing to say was, a “natural phenomena” or “high-altitude weather research”. The U-2 operations stopped in late 1950’s, but other top secret government projects continued. Some of those projects are A-12 and stealth aircrafts such as, Bird of Prey, F-117A and TACIT BLUE. “This is earth technology. You got folks claiming it’s extraterrestrial when it’s really good old American know-how” (Blitz, Matt 2). The flights and testing are still ongoing, and the government is still hiding it all. In September 2017, an Air Force Lt. Col. Was killed and no one knows how when his plane crashed in Area 51. The Pentagon would not ID the aircraft right away.

Bob Lazar was also a very intelligent man. For one, he was a physicist and two he worked at Area 51. He speaks of having degrees from MIT and Cal Tech, even though no one can find any record of it anywhere. In 2006, an article published in Wired stated that he owned a company named United Nuclear. That company was all about providing the government with rare chemicals and it had nothing to do with aliens. “Look, I know what happened is true. There is no doubt about it. Period.” (McClellan 1). Lazar is also known as the “cosmic whistleblower”, meaning he blew the whistle and told the public everything.

There are several conspiracies surrounding Bob Lazar and Area 51. One conspiracy is that he says he worked on reverse engineering on extraterrestrial machinery while working at Area 51. That’s almost impossible, because that area is always guarded by armed security.
“Barry turned on the reactor, which is a flat plate, half a basketball essentially on it, just a hemisphere. And once activated you could not touch the sphere. You put your hand on it, just like poles of a magnet. The exact same type of force. We had a little golf ball and threw it at it and rebounded and knocked a ceiling tile out of place. That alone is something amazing that could change everything we know today,” (Editor 2).

While he was interviewed, he speaks of some information he gathered while working at S4 (which it is part of Area 51). “Yeah, "of the craft" and everything that was subsequent it that was in an unusual context... not like, well, we're working on this and trying to do that... it was from a back-engineering stance... it was, well, we've seen this and we're trying to figure out what this does. And obviously they were working on a piece of hardware that was already...”  (Interview 1). He says he is a scientist that worked and studied aliens, but there isn’t any proof anywhere of those claims. “The aliens were in a separate room.” (Redfern1).  Do you think you can believe someone’s word without evidence? I think it would be kind of hard to. Some people think that the government told him to make up stories to tell the media.

The second conspiracy is that the government seems to have erased some records of Bob Lazar. For example, his degrees from both MIT and Cal Tech are missing. There’s no record at either school of him ever attending there. Is he pretending to have gone to those schools or is the government hiding something? Everything from working on extraterrestrials, to stealth bomber, to the vehicles used to generate gravity waves, there is no proof. “He spoke of UFOs being hidden in hangars carved out of the mountain sides close to the Nevada military base which is tucked away in the desert.” (Austin 1). Bob Lazar also talks about how he was given the history involved with aliens and earth dating back 10,000 yrs., but the U.S. government didn’t acknowledge the existent of Area 51 until 2013. Again, do you believe him?

The third conspiracy theory is that aliens are being hidden by the FBI. There was an observatory evacuation and they refuse to say the reason why that was done or what happened. No one can go in there now, just federal agents. Did someone see aliens or UFO’s? Did they see something that they weren’t supposed to see? It was shut down so quickly and with no explanation, that something like that had to have happened. It all goes back to the government hiding everything from the public. Some theorist are convinced that anything that looks from outer space and crashes, it’s all taken to Area 51. Then again, some things that Bob Lazar claims make sense, but others do not.

All three conspiracies go together. From Bob Lazar saying he worked at Area 51 to the government hiding something, to wondering if there are aliens living among us on Earth. There are many questions still unanswered.

Still to this day, Bob Lazar is one of the most talked about people that has to do with Area 51. Three conspiracy theories that people wonder about are…
                        1. Did he do reverse engineering on extraterrestrials machinery?
                        2. Did he go to the schools that he said he went to?
                        3. Is the FBI hiding aliens?
Even though there are a lot of facts and evidence of his stories, there are still many questions still unanswered. Bob Lazar and what really happened will be a mystery for many years to come.
