Princess Diana by Humberto Venegas

When you hear the word “Princess” what do you imagine? A young, beautiful woman that everyone can admire? A rich daughter of a beloved country? A woman who supports many charities and helps people in need? How about a princess, who’s death is shrouded in mystery? One such princess does exist, and her life is remembered and researched just as much as her death. Nineteen years later we still question the death of the Princess of Wales. A single car crash that took the lives of three people. A crash that shook a nation to its core. Was it all really just a drunken accident? Or was it a cover up for a more sinister act of murder?
Princess Diana was known for her beauty in not only her looks, but also her personality. She was 5’10”, just barely shorter than her ex-husband Charles, yet toward over her new boyfriend, Dodi Fayed. The two men in her life, however, where not just ordinary men, She was the people’s princess after all.
Her ex-husband was none other than Prince Charles, the future king of England. While her boyfriend was the son of a millionaire. Having been married into the royal family, many people believed that Diana was living a happy life. A life a lot like a fairy tale, but in reality, the happiness Diana showed to the world during her marriage, was just a facade for her insecurities. Princess Diana was actually unhappy in her marriage, hence the divorce, but that was not the only thing that she hid. Princess Diana was also fighting insecurity of her sense of self. When she was a lot younger, Diana had wanted to be a dancer. “She studied ballet and longed to become a ballerina for a time.  "When I am older, I will be a dancer," she once said.  But alas she grew to a height of 5'10" and became too tall to become a professional.”(British royal). She didn’t really know what would become of her life until she caught the eye of a certain prince. Prince Charles began courting Princess Diana and the two hit it off immediately. Some accounts claim that princess Diana was deeply in love with Charles. Which is why their engagement was officially announced in 1981.
While princess Diana was extremely happy marrying Prince Charles, she wasn’t expecting the mass media that would soon engulf her life. News about Charles’s love life was quite sot after. Who the future king will marry was on the lips of many British people. So when the news of Diana and Charles came into the light, every news outlet wanted a piece of it. Formerly being a shy girl, the news of her privet life being known to the masses was shocking to Diana. She then spent the next part of her life being a British official, working for the queen. Yet somewhere along the way she lost who she was. She was no longer that shy girl that wanted to dance. For now she was the princess of wales, wife of princes Charles. “She could no longer tell where her public image stopped and her private self-began.”(Smith).
Princes Diana’s death shocked millions, but because her death was so sudden the call for foul play was huge. Many question the death for the princess, and from those questions came conspiracies.
The first main conspiracy, was the involvement of “the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) – otherwise known as MI6.”(SIS).Essentially the secret service for the UK, many believe that they were involved in the death of Princess Diana. This claim in fact have some weight due to a man by the name of Richard Tomlinson. Richard was a former MI6 officer and he claimed that Diana’s death mirrored the plans that MI6 had for an assassination of a foreign president. This of course caused a huge uproar and further investigation continued. While Richard Tomlinson sounds like a creditable source, he was at the time, in prison for breaching the secret pack and giving away classified information. On top of that, after the investigation on the plans finished it was found that the assassination plan heavily differed from how Diana died. This coupled with the previous fact mad Richard Tomlinson a very unreliable source and thus was no longer credible.
The second main conspiracy was that the driver of the car crash, Henri Paul, was hired to kill Diana. The reason that people believe he was hired to kill her was mainly because his bank account and quite the sum of money for a simple chauffeur. It was also true that Henri Paul had contact to a secret services of some sort, thou the county and origination is still debated, and had previously done jobs for MI6. When word of this came to light, it seemed pretty obvious what had happened. MI6 had hired Henri Paul to kill Diana, but was also killed to cover up the crime. However, the French police discovered four times the legal limit of alcohol in Henri’s system at the time of the crash. With this information, the French investigation concluded that the crash was a simple drunk driving accident.
The final and most suspicions conspiracy is the white Fiat. The white Fiat conspiracy came forth because “There is forensic evidence that at some point the Mercedes car had a glancing contact with another car, believed to be a white Fiat Uno. The French investigation did not identify this car or the driver” (Operation Paget).Such an obvious contact with the car could have caused the crash and so the hunt for the car began. The most likely man was James Anderson, a photojournalist that had been following Diana ever since the divorce with Prince Charles. James just so happened to own a white Fiat Uno, and since he had been around Diana for such a long time it was almost a shut case, but when police investigated his Fiat, it was not in drivable condition. This cause the trail for the Fiat to go cold, leading many to believe it never really existed, but something strange soon happened. James Anderson was found dead in the woods, presumably he had committed suicide. His body was in a car that was then burned to a crisp, when a fire fighter was finally able to get his body out, he was freighted to see what he claimed to be two bullet holes on the side of his head. James Anderson mysterious death is still yet unexplained but many believe that he was killed to cover up the death of Princess Diana.
Princess Diana’s death is still questioned to this date. Her life will be remembered for her charity, her death, for the controversy it developed. In the end a single car crash took the lives of three people. Whether or not it was an accident or murder mattered not, their lives were ended too soon. All we can do now is remember their lives and cherish it in our hearts, lest they die to the sands of time.
