Conspiracies on the Death of Biggie Smalls by Angela Rodriguez

Who killed Christopher Wallace Jr. AKA Biggie Smalls?  Being from the East Coast members of Biggie's gang had problems with the West Coast due to gang related violence. Biggie Smalls was murdered on May 21, 1997, leaving a music event in Los Angeles, California, (Winton 1). Prior to his death Biggie Smalls had lost a friend who lived on the West Coast and many theories believe that the murder of Biggie was revenge for the death of Tupac (1). Dealing with all the gang & drug violence a homicide was the last thing anyone was expecting.

Christopher Wallace AKA Biggie Smalls was a major public figure and a good friend. The individuals that were surrounded around Biggie loved the vibes they got with him because everyone knew who Biggie was. Biggie did not let anyone get in the way of his dreams, especially since he was a high school dropout and many people did not believe he was going to do anything with himself besides, follow in the footsteps of rest of the kids who dropped out. The "pull of the streets – it grabbed him and he went that route" (Kelley 1).
Biggie Smalls used his place in the society to empower the youth and deliver a strong message through his words.Growing up around drugs and violence he quickly realized that school was not the route for him. When Biggie was old enough to do things on his own he was freestyling and showing his talent on blocks near his home. His first debut was a tape that “Cee in turn passed the tape to hip-pop magazine The Source” (Huey 1). Many major artist were already asking Biggie for features as well as getting him to sign record labels. “It was like he was on a quest to become the greatest of all time” (Kelley 1). Biggie knew what his destiny was as well as the people that surrounded him. The main priority was to now provide for not only himself but his child that he welcomed to the world shortly after he was released from jail and his tape was making a hit in the music industry.Considering Biggie’s age many people were surprised to see that someone so young was making something so big out of his life.Biggie Smalls had developed a new persona as well as a new name The Notorious B.I.G.. As he began developing relationships with people who had bigger names, Biggie made sure he was featured in every song and a little after he made a album that sold four million copies.Things were going really good for him as he “turned the notorious B.I.G into a hip-hop sensation - the first major star the east coast had produced”(Huey 1).

Making many friends the closest one was Tupac Shakur meeting in 1993 these two coming from the East and West coast their cultures clashed and it was the best thing that happened in rap at the time.Although the East and West coast were rivalries at this time it did not stop them from making songs together and doing things that shocked many people all around the world.Biggie Smalls was always there for his friends and always had their back. The very first influence in Biggie Smalls life was Sean Combs AKA P Diddy, they were business partners but most importantly they were really good friends since the beginning.Loosing B.I.G was hard for millions of people but it really hurt P Diddy and he remembers him everyday “20 years ago today we lost the greatest rapper of all time, The Notorious B.I.G.”(Pocklington 1).Every where you would see Biggie he would have Diddy with him and the rest of his entourage. When Biggie’s friends needed him he was right there and he always did what was needed to do to protect them. There was so many good times with Biggie that it is almost hard to pick out the bad times. In his short time he changed the music industry so much and impacted that lives of many people daily.Sadly on “9th March 1997, Biggie was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in LA”(Warner 1).His death shocked many people because just six months prior to his death his good friend Tupac Shakur had died and many blamed Biggie. They had some controversy over a shooting “their friendship ended that night” (Warner 1) Tupac believe Biggie and his friends had to do with lots of it and after that things got ugly for the both of them. Many nasty songs were made toward one another and their friendship got lost in the mix.
With the passing of Biggie he left behind such a great image for himself,he proved to many that no matter where he came from he could do great things in his life. The following years were challenging mainly because no one knows who killed Biggie. No matter how great of a person he was the fact that he might have been involved with Tupac’s murder gave people all of the reason to want to hurt him.Whoever was with Tupac the night of his death had many reasons to be furious and want to kill Biggie.Things were getting hot between the East and West coast when tupac had died “hip hop brought pac and big together, but it also tore them apart”(Warner 1). Biggie was a great person but different events made him do different things and his murder is very obvious.
Biggie Smalls death was questioned by many due to the way it happened. Biggie’s murder being covered up by the (Federal Bureau-Investigation) FBI, his murder involved Sean Diddy Combs, and Biggie still being alive while hiding out in foreign countries, are three conspiracy theories that are frequently being brought up. All of the article as well as the fact make these theories very believable.
The first theory has to do with the FBI knowing who killed Biggie and not wanting to say anything or release any information involving the murder. Biggie’s mother was interviewed and confessed to the FBI knowing who murdered her son, “I have a very good idea of who murdered Christopher and I genuinely believe that the LAPD knows exactly who did it too.. they ‘ve done their investigation, but they just refuse to move forward” (Zimmerman 1).  The FBI was already fed up with the drama that the East and West coast has that when Biggie was murdered they had every right to cover it up. The shooter was spotted but never identified “an African-American male dressed in a blue suit and bow tie fired six shots at the vehicles, with four of them hitting Biggie Smalls in the chest” (Zimmerman 1). The Federal Bureau-Investigation (FBI) has excuses for everything and when Biggie’s case begins to surface again it never gets solved. It has been more than twenty years since his death and with every file the FBI has available to them they will not let the shooter be known. The FBI has solved fairly more difficult cases and with already having a suspect the murder is just going by people's heads like it is not a problem. Many members have been questioned, files have been looked through, and interviews have been rerunned even with all this evidence the case remains open.

The second conspiracy is that Biggie’s partner Sean Diddy Combs was involved with his murder. Diddy has felt that he is responsible for Biggie’s murder “I think i’ll always feel some sort of responsibility because i’m in this thing with him. He’s my artist” (Mckenzie 1). That night they were supposed to go to London and Diddy convinced Biggie to stay in Los Angeles what a coincidence that, that night Biggie was shot. Diddy has had many interviews since Biggie’s passing and it seems that he is very depressed but is he really? All the times that he was interviewed  he has tried to make people feel bad for the tragedy that happened. After Biggie’s death Diddy teamed up with Faith Evans to record “Grammy-winning song “I’ll Be Missing You” in memory of the late rapper”(20 years after Notorious B.I.G.’s death 1). People will think that Diddy is doing this to remember his friend but to many signs have showed that he was involved in the murder way more than he says he is. Diddy had fame but as Biggie was becoming more known in the music industry, Diddy had every reason to want to take that spotlight from him. Diddy had paid members of a gang to kill Shakur prior to the death of Biggie. Diddy along with  Marion “Suge” Knight had both been involved with Biggie and Tupac, Suge paid members of a gang to kill Biggie “Knight retaliated by hiring a member of the bloods to kill Wallace for $13,000” (20 years after Notorious B.I.G’s death 1). Both of these individuals were paying gang members to harm these upcoming rappers and were pretending to be their friends, meanwhile they were plotting on them and figuring out different ways to take their lives without them noticing. If  Diddy could pay people to kill someone who was close friends with Biggie there is no telling what he would do to get rid of his own friend. This case remains unsolved and unfortunately there are not enough facts to prove this theory.
The last theory is the craziest one mainly because people think that after this tragedy Biggie Smalls is still well and alive. The world believes that Biggie is alive and is not afraid to show himself  “conspiracy theories were fuelled this year when an image was taken at a party” (Austin 1). The photograph was taken at a bachelor party in Greece and was posted all over social media where it quickly became what everyone was talking about. This rumor was soon ended when the person in the picture spoke up and proved that it was him in the photo and not Biggie. Many will say that Biggie and Tupac ran off together to another country because they were tired of the coast drama and they wanted to get away. Tons of people in the world have look alikes so the theory that Biggie is still alive can not be proven no matter how matter how many facts you gather.
The theory that solves the conspiracy is the one that the FBI knows who killed Biggie Smalls. In a survey sixty five percent of people, believe that the Federal Bureau-Investigation (FBI) knows who murdered Biggie Smalls and are trying to cover it up. Although people believe there are many other reasons for the death of B.I.G there is not one that is more obvious than this one. Biggie’s mom believes they are involved and clearly know what is going on. They have been doing the same thing with the murder of Tupac Shakur for plenty of years. The evidence is there but what is the FBI truly hiding, until some justice is served they will be responsible for the murder of Biggie Smalls.

The passing of Biggie Smalls was very tragic and it scarred the lives of many for many years. The murder of Biggie Smalls resulted in three major conspiracy theories.
  1. Was the Federal Bureau of Investigation involved in the murder of Biggie Smalls?
  2. Was Sean “Diddy”  Combs a part of the bloody murder of his best friend and music partner?
  3. Is Biggie Smalls still alive and hiding out to never be found ?
The murder of Biggie Smalls  remains unsolved after twenty long years leaving family and friends desperate for answers. Although the case has not been solved it is more than obvious that the FBI has something to do with the murder of Christopher Wallace, his mother has said it in many interviews and she will not give up until she gets justice for her son.
